EIS – Royal Yacht Britannia (Day 07)

EIS – Royal Yacht Britannia (Day 07)

(8/24/2010 Afternoon) This afternoon we went to the Royal Yacht Britannia. The Royal Family’s yacht they used for years. Among those that have boarded the yacht includes the then President Client.

We boarded the ship from the top deck and ended up in the wheel house.

As we moved from deck to deck, we were able to take pictures of the decks from a side view.

We found ourselves on the living quarter’s deck for the Royal Family. It is interesting that the rooms are fairly Spartan from what they could be. The Queen’s bedroom is separate from Prince Edward’s bedroom. The Queen sleeps in a single sized bed.

The Royal family’s dining room contained a table that could seat 26 people. Around the room contained a number of artifacts given to the Queen from various locations, including a whale bone.

The sitting room also spacious contained enough seating for everyone and a piano in the corner. An anteroom contained small tables for board games and such.

Outside the ship, the museum had a motor launch. As you can see, it is very nice.

The last deck had crew quarters and this one is an example.

After our trip to the Royal Yacht Britannia, we had dinner in a restaurant just a street or so from the Castle. While we ate, a couple of workers climbed the flag pole using ladder sections which they brought up one section at a time. The flag was stuck part way up the pole earlier in the day and they were attempting to fix it before the Tattoo. As you can see from the photo, they had only reached half way. (The light isn’t great and I am not so steady, but you get the idea.)

Until later, Bob and Carmen – EIS.
